Layer-based editing

Layer-based image editing in your browser

Pixopea keeps the structure of a desktop editor: image, text and shape layers, groups, masks, clipping, blend modes and adjustment layers. Move a layer, change a mask or hide an effect later without rebuilding the image.

Stays in your browser

Your file is opened locally. It is uploaded only if you save a cloud project or run an AI tool.

A real layer stack

Reorder layers, put them in groups, duplicate them and control visibility. Text and shapes remain editable, so a headline can be rewritten and a button resized long after it was placed. The document model stores the stack as data rather than a merged bitmap.

  • Image, text, shape and adjustment layers
  • Groups, clipping and layer masks
  • Multiply and other blend modes
  • Independent opacity and visibility

Masks and non-destructive adjustments

A mask hides part of a layer without deleting pixels. Adjustment layers apply colour and tone changes above the layers below, so the original photo remains intact. Combine both to retouch a subject while keeping every decision reversible.

PSD in, PSD out

Import a layered PSD to continue work from another editor, and export a layered PSD when someone else needs the file. Pixopea reports content it cannot carry over instead of silently flattening it, and its own .ais package keeps the full document and assets for a round trip.

Common questions

Are the layers really editable after saving?

Yes. Cloud projects and .ais packages keep the layer structure. Flattened PNG and JPG exports do not, which is why the layered formats are also offered.

Does PSD import preserve everything?

Image, text, group and common adjustment layers are carried over. Some PSD features, such as certain layer styles and smart objects, are reported as approximated or not carried over.

Can I use layers without an account?

Yes. The guest editor has the layer tools and can export a layered PSD or .ais file. An account is needed for cloud saves and version history.
